Announced PCP investigation into the proposed acquisition of Uber B. V. and Uber Systems, Inc. by Grab Holdings, Inc. and MyTaxi. PH

On 3 April 2018, the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) directed the Mergers and Acquisitions Office to initiated a mot proprio review of the acquisition by Grab Holdings, Inc. and My Taxi. PH, Inc. of assets from Uber B.V. and Uber Systems, Inc. The case was directed to the M&A Office following a preliminary assessments that suggested the transaction might substantially lessen, prevent, or restrict competition in the highly concentrated market of platform intermediary e-commerce services. The review was prompted by concerns over potential adverse effects on the riding public and partner drivers, despite the transaction not meeting the compulsory notification requirements under the Philippine Competition Act. The PC's decision to investigate is based on its authority to ensure competitive practices in the market, especially in industries providing basic public services.
