Description

Implemented Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework for cross-border data transfers

On 15 September 2024, the Swiss Federal Council's decision that the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) is adequate for transferring personal data from Switzerland to the US entered into effect. This decision allows organisations to transfer personal data from Switzerland to companies in the United States that are certified under the Swiss-US DPF. The DPF is in accordance with the new Swiss data protection law effective from 1 September 2023. The certification ensures that US companies process data solely for its collected purposes, prohibits data transfer to non-certified third parties and establishes a complaint mechanism for data access by US authorities.
