Adopted Bill to Require Browsers to Offer Opt-out Preference Signals (AB 3048)

On 27 August 2024, the Bill to Require Browsers to Offer Opt-out Preference Signals (AB 3048) was adopted by the California House of Representatives. The Bill requires entities developing and providing browsers to include an opt-out preference signal setting in browsers and devices used by consumers to interact with them. Further, the Bill requires the opt-out option to be easily accessible and usable. The California Privacy Protection Agency will have the power to adopt regulations to implement and oversee these requirements, including updating definitions related to technology advancements or privacy concerns.
