Description

Implemented obligation for businesses to remove Kaspersky products from their systems and replace them based on BIS order banning Kaspersky Lab from providing services in US

On 29 September 2024, the obligation for businesses to remove Kaspersky products from their systems and replace them and for Kaspersky Lab to stop providing services enters into force. The Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a Final Determination banning Kaspersky Lab, the US subsidiary of the Russia-based cybersecurity company, from providing its products and services in the United States or to US persons. BIS also added AO Kaspersky Lab, OOO Kaspersky Group, and Kaspersky Labs Limited to the Entity List for collaborating with the Russian military and intelligence in support of Russia's cyber intelligence goals. BIS concluded that Kaspersky poses a significant national security risk due to its control by the Russian Government, access to sensitive customer information, and potential to install malicious software and withhold critical updates.
