Description

Adopted Department of Commerce order prohibiting Kaspersky Lab from directly or indirectly providing anti-virus software and cybersecurity products or services in US or to US persons

On 14 June 2024, the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a Final Determination banning Kaspersky Lab, the US subsidiary of the Russia-based cybersecurity company, from providing its products and services in the United States or to US persons. BIS also added AO Kaspersky Lab and OOO Kaspersky Group, and Kaspersky Labs Limited to the Entity List for collaborating with the Russian military and intelligence in support of Russia's cyber intelligence goals. BIS concluded that Kaspersky poses a significant national security risk due to its control by the Russian Government, access to sensitive customer information, and potential to install malicious software and withhold critical updates.
