On 30 May 2024, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Regulation Bill was rejected automatically following the dissolution of Parliament. The Bill would have defined AI as technology enabling the programming or training of a device or software to perceive environments, interpret data using automated processing, and make recommendations, predictions or decisions. The Bill would have introduced AI principles such as safety, security and robustness, transparency and explainability, fairness, accountability and governance, contestability and redress. Furthermore, the Bill would have established intellectual property (IP) obligations for persons involved in AI training. In particular, developers would have been required to ensure that all third-party data and intellectual property used in training is obtained through informed consent and that they comply with IP and copyright obligations.
