Introduced Artificial Intelligence Regulation Bill including provisions related to copyright

On 22 November 2023, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Regulation Bill was introduced to the United Kingdom Parliament. The Bill defines AI as technology enabling the programming or training of a device or software to perceive environments, interpret data using automated processing, and make recommendations, predictions or decisions. The Bill introduces AI principles such as safety, security and robustness, transparency and explainability, fairness, accountability and governance, contestability and redress. Furthermore, the Bill establishes intellectual property (IP) obligations for persons involved in AI training. In particular, developers will be required to ensure that all third-party data and intellectual property used in training is obtained through informed consent and that they comply with IP and copyright obligations.
