Description

Adopted Guidance on Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework: Generative Artificial Intelligence Profile (NIST AI 600-1)

On 26 July 2024, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) adopted the Guidance Document for the Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework: Generative Artificial Intelligence Profile (NIST AI 600-1). The Guidance applies to the development and deployment of Generative AI (GAI) technologies across various sectors, including the use of large language models, cloud-based services, and acquisition processes. The Guidance contains relevant recommendations and obligations for organisations involved in designing, developing, using, or evaluating AI systems, with the aim of managing associated risks and ensuring trustworthiness. The Guidance emphasises governance, mapping, measurement, and management of risks unique to or exacerbated by GAI. The Guidance also encourages organizations to align these practices with their goals, consider legal and regulatory requirements, and adhere to best practices for risk management, including safeguarding data, ensuring transparency, and maintaining accountability in the use of GAI.
