On 26 January 2021, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued a decision to adopt the National Strategy on Research, Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence until 2030 following a request of the Minister of Science and Technology. The strategic decision aims to position Vietnam as a leading innovator and hub for AI solutions and applications within ASEAN and globally by 2030. The strategy delineates the directions and targets for enhancing Vietnam's AI capabilities, including the establishment of renowned AI brands, innovation centers, and the development of high-performance computing centers. The strategy places particular emphasis on the application of AI across a range of sectors, including national defense, public administration, and economic development. The objective is to leverage AI as a pivotal technology for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and to improve national competitiveness and sustainable economic growth. Finally, the government will formulate and implement policies and legislation to regulate the research, development, and application of AI in real life. Furthermore, international cooperation should be enhanced through the implementation of bilateral and multilateral scientific research cooperation. It is recommended that international AI associations, organisations, and networks be joined.
