On 28 June 2024, the European Commission issued a formal request for information to the online marketplace Temu, under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The request seeks detailed information on the steps Temu has taken to adhere to DSA obligations, including the implementation of a “Notice and Action mechanism” for reporting illegal products, designing online interfaces that avoid manipulative “dark patterns”, ensuring the protection of minors, enhancing the transparency of recommender systems, and improving the traceability of traders. The requirement was issued following a complaint from consumer organisations. Temu is required to respond by 12 July 2024, and failure to provide accurate and complete information could lead to proceedings under Article 66 of the DSA, including potential fines.
