European Union: Announced European Commission investigation into Temu's mitigation measures taken against traders selling illegal products

Description

Announced European Commission investigation into Temu's mitigation measures taken against traders selling illegal products

On 11 October 2024, the European Commission issued a request for information (RFI) to the e-commerce platform Temu under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The European Commission aims to assess compliance with the DSA’s obligation to address and mitigate the sale and distribution of illegal products. The RFI demands Temu to provide details on the measures it has implemented to prevent the sale of illegal products and to protect consumers, public health, and users' wellbeing. Additionally, the Commission is inquiring about Temu's recommender systems and the safeguarding of users' personal data. Temu, designated as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) since 31 May 2024, is required to respond by 21 October 2024, with potential penalties for non-compliance or misleading information.
