Description

Rejected Bill amending the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act

On 10 January 2023, the Bill amending the Biometric Information Privacy Act (Bill SB 0300) was rejected after failing to pass before the legislature session adjourned. The Bill would have changed the definition of "biometric information" and "written consent" and would have provided specifications of rights of action and proceedings against private entities. Moreover, the Bill would have eliminated the fixed maximum amount of damages that could have been requested in case of violation of the prescriptions related to the treatment of biometric data.
