On 16 April 2024, the Bill amending the Digital Charter Implementation Act (Bill C-27) was introduced to the House of Commons of Canada. The Bill was included as section 350 of the Act to implement certain provisions of the budget (C-69). The Bill would apply to reporting entities, including financial organisations involved in the detection and prevention of money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions evasion. The Bill would allow entities to disclose personal information to other organisations without an individual's knowledge or consent if the disclosure is reasonable for detecting or deterring these crimes and if obtaining consent would compromise their detection, provided the disclosure complies with regulations.
