On 20 June 2024, the Bill amending the Digital Charter Implementation Act (Bill C-27) received royal assent. The Digital Charter Implementation Act is still under deliberation, and the Bill will come into effect if the Digital Charter Implementation Act itself receives royal assent. The Bill was included as section 350 of the Act to implement certain provisions of the budget (C-69). The Bill applies to reporting entities, including financial organisations involved in the detection and prevention of money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions evasion. The Bill allows the entities to disclose personal information to other organisations without an individual's knowledge or consent if the disclosure is reasonable for detecting or deterring these crimes and if obtaining consent would compromise their detection, provided the disclosure complies with regulations.
