Announced Texas AG Lawsuit against Nomad Internet for alleged deceptive trade practices

On 20 April 2023, the Texas Attorney General's (AG) Office filed a public lawsuit against Nomad Internet for allegedly engaging in deceptive trade practices. The lawsuit alleges that Nomad Internet acquired and repurposed SIM cards from legitimate providers to sell internet access, primarily to rural customers, under false pretences. This scheme, valued at USD 75 million, led to customers losing internet access when the unauthorised use was detected. A temporary injunction was obtained to halt the operation, and Nomad’s assets were frozen to secure funds for potential consumer restitution.
