Description

Implemented Personal Information Protection Commission Eraser Service Project

On 22 May 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of Korea announced the implementation of the "Eraser Service". The initiative was launched in April of the previous year and has successfully processed over 16'000 cases. The service assists individuals in removing or making unsearchable online content that includes their personal information. Initially, it was available to those under 24, but it has since been expanded to individuals under 30. In order to qualify for the service, the content in question must contain personal information and have been created when the individual in question was a minor, defined as anyone under the age of 19. The process entails verifying the ownership of the posts and then proceeding with the deletion or unsearchability of the content.
