Description

Announced pilot project for the "Children's Digital Right to be Forgotten" facilitating the deletion of digital posts by children

On 24 April 2023, the Republic of Korea (ROK)'s Personal Information Protection Committee announced the "Children's Digital Right to be Forgotten" pilot project, where individuals can apply for the "Eraser Service" at the government's personal information portal for online digital posts that children and young people under the age of 24 had made before 18 years of age. The project is aimed at helping children and youths who experience difficulties in practising self-determination in sharing personal information and those who may have trouble removing information after posting it online. Based on the pilot project, the authorities will be able to require online platforms, on behalf of the individuals, to delete the content posed.
