Brazil's Chamber of Deputies approves constitutional amendment PEC 17/2019 to make personal data protection a fundamental right
On 31 August 2021, the Chamber of Deputies approved the constitutional amendment (PEC No. 17/2019) that adds the protection of personal data to the list of the fundamental rights listed in the Brazilian constitution. In addition, the act makes the federal government responsible for legislating and supervising the protection and the way personal data is processed. The amendment is now forwarded to the Brazilian Senate.
