Republic of Korea: Closed consultation on the Proposed Amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act

On 10 June 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) closes its consultation on the Proposed Amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act. The amendments aim to facilitate the promotion of MyData across various sectors by establishing standards and procedures for information transmitters and receivers. The amendments, a follow-up to the Personal Information Transmission Request System introduced in March 2023, outline criteria for information transmitters and recipients and establish the designation process for personal information management specialised institutions. It prioritises the healthcare, telecommunications, and distribution sectors for initial implementation in 2025, with plans for a gradual expansion across all fields.
