Republic of Korea: Announced PIPC Amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act for MyData Promotion

On 30 April 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act. This legislative action aims to facilitate the promotion of MyData across various sectors by establishing standards and procedures for information transmitters, receivers, and transmission methods. The amendment, a follow-up to the Personal Information Transmission Request System introduced in March 2023, sets out criteria for information transmitters and recipients and outlines the designation process for personal information management specialised institutions. It prioritises the healthcare, telecommunications, and distribution sectors for initial implementation in 2025, with plans for a gradual expansion across all fields.
