Mexico: Implemented Amendment to Tourism Law Regulating Digital Hosting Platforms including registration requirement

Description

Implemented Amendment to Tourism Law Regulating Digital Hosting Platforms including registration requirement

On 1 November 2024, the Amendment to the Tourism Law, which is specifically aimed at regulating digital accommodation platforms, was implemented. The amendment introduces a host registry, where property owners must register with the city if they intend to rent out their properties on digital platforms. This registry serves as a central database to track and monitor hosts operating in the city's lodging market. Further, the platforms are also required to register with the city. Hosts are mandated to submit semi-annual reports on the occupancy of their properties. Moreover, to ensure accountability and tax compliance, hosts must provide detailed financial information, including their name, identification, Federal Taxpayer Registration Number (RFC), proof of tax status, and documentation proving ownership or possession of the property offered for rent. Accommodations listed on digital platforms must display the host's contact information and proof of registration in the host census.
