On 10 May 2024, the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) concluded its inquiry into the application of the data protection accuracy principle within the lifecycle of generative AI models. The inquiry sought insights on how the accuracy of training data influences the outputs of generative AI models, and how the accuracy principle of data protection affects the accuracy of outputs. The ICO's position, on which it sought feedback, is that developers should have an overview of the accuracy of training data and its effects on the output, and consider the relation between a model's statistical accuracy and its purpose.
