Description

Adopted Walker Montgomery Protecting Children Online Act including Age Verification Requirements (HB 1126)

On 8 April 2024, the Senate adopted the Walker Montgomery Protecting Children Online Act (HB 1126). The act requires digital service providers to record the ages of users who register accounts with them before granting access to their services. Further, providers must make reasonable efforts to verify user age and, in the case of known minors, only permit an account to be opened where there is the express consent of a parent or guardian. If the Act becomes law after being sent to the Governor, it will enter into effect on 1 July 2024.
