Description

Announced GVH investigation into Extreme Digital-eMAG Limited Liability Company (eMAG) for alleged unfair commercial practices

On 2 April 2024, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) initiated proceedings against Extreme Digital-eMAG for allegedly deceiving consumers through unfair commercial practices related to publishing consumer opinions, product promotions such as “Crazy Days”, providing false delivery timeframes, and misleadingly advertising the 14-day return policy and warranty periods as product advantages when they are legally required. This follows a 2021 case where GVH fined eMAG 200 million HUF and required HUF 4 billion in remedies, which eMAG was later fined an additional HUF 50 million for not fully implementing. The current case is aimed at investigating the alleged violations, with proceedings expected to last up to 7 months.
