Published Artificial Intelligence Accountability Policy Report

On 27 March 2024, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the United States of America published its artificial intelligence (AI) accountability policy report. The report recommends that federal government agencies work with stakeholders to create guidelines for AI audits and auditors, improve standard information disclosures, and develop recommendations for applying existing liability rules and standards to AI systems. Furthermore, the report highlights that regulatory requirements should encompass the utilisation of authorities to mandate as-needed independent evaluations and regulatory inspections of high-risk AI model classes and systems. It also emphasises the need to strengthen capacity in addressing cross-sectoral risks and practices related to AI. Additionally, it calls for government suppliers, contractors, and grantees to adopt robust AI governance and assurance practices for AI utilised in connection with contracts or grants.
