United States of America: Announced TikTok Privacy Settlement

A Privacy Settlement to resolve multidistrict litigation over TikTok's alleged misuse of its users’ private data is agreed between TikTok and the users that filed the lawsuits. The multidistrict lawsuit is based on the Illinois’ biometric privacy law. In addition to the monetary relief, the proposed settlement also provides for injunctive relief composed by the following commitments: setting limits on the storage and transmission of data outside the U.S, data deletion of pre-uploaded user-generated content that was not posted on the platform, enhanced training of employees on data protection issues and auditing for three years following the settlement.
