The TikTok Privacy Settlement to resolve multidistrict litigation over the company’s alleged misuse of its users’ private data is preliminarily approved by the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The lawsuit is based on the Illinois’ biometric privacy law. In addition to the monetary relief, the proposed settlement also provides for injunctive relief composed by the following commitments: setting limits on the storage and transmission of data outside the U.S, data deletion of pre-uploaded user-generated content that was not posted on the platform, enhanced training of employees on data protection issues and auditing for three years following the settlement.
