United Kingdom: Announced Government proposal for a maximum stake limit for online slot games

On 23 February 2024, the Government announced that it would adopt a statutory maximum stake limit for online slot games. The limit would be set at GBP 5 per spin for adults aged 25 and over and GBP 2 per spin for young adults aged 18 to 24. These limits are intended to mitigate gambling-related harm while minimising unintended consequences and disruptions for most gamblers. The government noted that these limits should be viewed as maximums rather than default options, with operators expected to continue offering a range of lower-stake options.
