Established Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (USAISI)

On 8 February 2023, the Department of Commerce (DOC) announced the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (USAISI) through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The DOC issued the list of members, which includes industry and government researchers and non-governmental organisations. The establishment of USAISI was mandated in the Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of AI. In particular, the USAISI will develop standards for the security and testing of AI models and authentication of AI-generated content. Further, the USAISI will develop test environments for researchers to assess emerging AI risks and address known impacts.
