On 7 February 2024, the European Parliament adopted its position on the Proposal for a Regulation on the Extension of Derogation from the ePrivacy Directive until May 2025, specifically for the purpose of identifying Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online. The Parliament recommend maintaining the existing rules until 3 May 2025, emphasising that this extension should not go beyond that date. They stressed the necessity of establishing permanent regulations on CSAM, incorporating preventive measures, and proposing this extension as a temporary and singular solution. Following the adoption of Parliament's position, the negotiations with the Council on the final version of the regulation will start.
