Issued AAIP notice on advancement in investigation into WorldCoin handling of personal data

On 11 January 2024, the Argentinian Agency for Access to Public Information (AAIP) announced the advancement of its investigation into the WorldCoin Foundation's processing of personal data. The investigation, which began in August 2023, is examining potential violations of the Law on Protection of Personal Data. Specifically, WorldCoin has been alleged to scan the face and iris of individuals in exchange for monetary compensation in cryptocurrencies. The AAIP has requested additional documentation from WorldCoin and is currently analysing the new information provided. The agency has also formed a Working Group with other countries to examine the company's activities within the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD).
