Argentina: Announced AAIP investigation into Worldcoin regarding the treatment of personal data introducing data protection regulation

On 8 August 2023, the Argentinian Agency of Access to Public Information (AAIP) announced the opening of an investigation into Worldcoin regarding the treatment of personal data. The AAIP stated that it opened the case due to the company's new practice of scanning people's faces and irises in exchange for payment in various areas, including the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, and Black River. The investigation will examine how personal data is collected, stored, and used, focusing on its impact on rights established by Law 25,326. Furthermore, the AAIP aims to ensure the company's compliance with security and privacy measures required when collecting sensitive data and registration of databases obligation.
