Japan: Closed Consultation on Adapting Copyright Legislation for AI and ML Development

On 12 February 2024, the Agency for Cultural Affairs closed the consultation on the adaptation of copyright legislation for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The consultation addressed the challenges posed by AI-generated works and the need for legislation to take into account both the rights of creators and the innovative uses of AI. The consultation covered a range of topics, including the technical background of generative AI, the concerns of various stakeholders, and the legal aspects of AI-generated content.
