On 24 June 2014, Civil Rights Framework for the Internet (Law No 12.965/2014) entered into force. The Law states that user-generated content that violates copyright or related rights is subject to specific legal provisions that must respect the freedom of expression and other guarantees in Article 5 of the Federal Constitution. However, the Law states that until these specific legal provisions enter into force, the copyright legislation will be applicable to any damages resulting from content on platforms that infringe copyright or related rights.
