Announced EU Commission requests further information in the investigation into Meta’s compliance with requirements regarding the protection of minors under the DSA

On 1 December 2023, the European Commission sent a request for additional information to Meta regarding the risk assessments and mitigation measures adopted under the Digital Service Act (DSA) to address the protection of minors online, including the circulation of self-generated child sexual abuse material (SG-CSAM) on Instagram. Additionally, Meta is required to provide information about the recommender system and amplification of potentially harmful content. Meta must provide information on the measures adopted by 22 December 2023. In case of non-compliance, the Commission may issue fines in accordance with Article 74 of DSA for inadequate, false, or misleading information or initiate further proceedings under Article 66 of DSA.
