Announced investigation into TikTok regarding communication to consumers

On 8 October 2020, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) announced an investigation into TikTok regarding the communication to its users. The GVH alleged that TikTok is not providing consumers with the relevant information regarding the functioning of the platform, specifically what and how much data was processed when using the platform and how TikTok used this data. The GVH also notes that the conditions regarding the platform’s operation and use of services provided by TikTok are not available in Hungarian for consumers in Hungary. Further, the GVH will investigate whether TikTok failed to limit the exposure of minors to advertisement during the use of the platform as is expected from their professional diligence. The GVH will complete the proceeding in three months, which may be extended twice by two months each if justified.
