Issued EU Commission statement of objections against Adobe's proposed acquisition of Figma

On 17 November 2023, the European Commission issued its statement of objections against Adobe's proposed acquisition of Figma, noting that the acquisition may result in lessening competition in the interactive product design software market. In particular, the Commission noted that Figma is the leader in the supply of interactive product design tools sector, and Adobe is its main competitor, and if the acquisition takes place, Adobe would have a dominant position in the market. In addition, the Commission noted that Adobe's interactive product design tool, Adobe XD, would be discontinued. Regarding the supply of vector editing tools and raster editing tools, the Commission claimed that the acquisition would strengthen Adobe's dominance in the market due to the elimination of Figma, its potential competitor. The company Figma provides web-based collaborative tools for designing products, and Adobe offers software, including product design software such as Adobe XD.
