Introduced Bill amending the Media Act 2008 including investment obligation on streaming services

On 18 July 2022, Bill 36176, amending the Media Act 2008 to impose an investment obligation on streaming services, was introduced into the Netherlands Parliament. Under the Bill, large streaming services operating in the Netherlands will be required to invest 5% of their annual turnover in Dutch audiovisual productions. The threshold for qualifying as a large streaming service is an annual turnover of EUR 10 million. Streaming services will be allowed to invest in any type of local productions, with the exception of sports.
