Description

Adopted US-Japan statement under Partnership for Growth and Innovation including regulation of Artificial Intelligence

On 14 November 2023, the United States (US) and Japan convened the second ministerial meeting of the Japan-US Economic Policy Consultative Committee (EPCC). The statement includes a commitment to continue advancing the Hiroshima Artificial Intelligence (AI) process together with other Group of Seven (G7) members. In addition, the parties intend to support the efforts of relevant G7 Ministers to organise multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations within the G7. The statement commits to improving the interoperability of governance frameworks and to working together to develop a crosswalk between the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework and Japan's AI Guidelines. Finally, the parties plan to expand the availability of semiconductors, which are essential for the development of generative AI in Japan and the US.
