Announced US-Japan Partnership for Growth and Innovation including commitment to regulating cross-border data transfer

On 29 July 2022, the United States (US) and Japan convened the inaugural ministerial meeting of the Japan-US Economic Policy Consultative Committee (EPCC). The parties state that the Action Plan includes bilateral and multilateral coordination to expand and support the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) Forum and the Global Privacy Recognition for Processors (PRP) systems as internationally recognised certifications.
