United States of America: Adopted FISA Amendments Act of 2008 (HR6304)

On 9 July 2008, the US Congress adopted the FISA Amendments Act of 2008. The Act introduces the new Section 702 of FISA, which replaces the expired Protect America Act provisions. Section 702 authorises the US government to "target non-US persons, reasonably believed to be located outside the United States, in order to collect foreign intelligence information". Subject to reauthorisation by the US Congress, the Act expires on 31 December 2017.
