Amazon fined 35 million euros for unlawful cookie policy

On 7 December 2020, the French National Commission for Informatics and Freedoms (Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés - CNIL) sanctioned Amazon with a fine of 35 million euros. Specifically, Amazon was charged for two violations of article 82 of the French Data Protection Act by placing cookies on "amazon.fr" without the consent of users and not informing the users about the cookies sufficiently. Furthermore, the placed cookies even pursued advertising purposes.
