On 13 October 2023, Senate Bill 296 regarding In-vehicle cameras was signed by the Governor of California. The Bill applies to car manufacturers, dealers, buyers, and lessees, and imposes several rights and obligations. Manufacturers are required to disclose that a car is equipped with in-vehicle cameras, and dealers will be prohibited from selling them without informing the buyer or lessee. The buyer or lessee will have the right to review the owner manual prior to the purchase in order to determine whether cameras are installed. Further, using the recordings for advertising purposes, or selling them to third parties, is prohibited.
