Adopted Bill regarding In-vehicle cameras (SB 296)

On 12 September 2023, the California Bill regarding In-vehicle cameras (SB 296) was adopted by the Senate. The Bill would apply to car manufacturers, dealer, buyers, and lessees, and imposes several rights and obligations. Manufacturers must disclose that a car is equipped with in-vehicle cameras, and dealers would be prohibited from selling them without informing the buyer or lessee. The buyer or lessee would have the right to review the owner manual prior to the purchase in order to determine whether such cameras are installed. Further, using the recordings for advertising purposes, or selling them to third parties, would be prohibited. The Bill now goes to the Governor for signing.
