Consultation opened on data reform including rules for data usage

On 10 September 2021, the UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport launched its data reform along with a consultation on the matter. The consultation will close on 19 November 2021. The proposals include but are not limited to rules on data usage without consent for certain legitimate interests such as research, as well as simplified data usage related to AI and machine learning. Furthermore, organizations will no longer have to appoint a data protection officer (DPO) and may fill this role with any competent and fitting individual, or individuals. Finally, the government wants to change and simplify the cookies rules.
