Introduced Assembly Bill No. 825 expanding the definition of genetic data

On 16 February 2021 Assembly Bill No. 825 ('AB 825') was introduced to the California Assembly. AB 825 aims to amend sections 1798.29, 1798.81.5, and 1798.82 of the Civil Code, relating to information privacy, expanding the definition of genetic data, to include DNA, RNA, genes and chromosomes, among others. With AB 825, the data breach notification law is improved and expanded.
