Republic of Korea: Opened consultation on partial amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act to establish a legal basis for platform self-regulation

On 21 September 2023, the Korean Communications Commission (KCC) opened a consultation on a partial amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act to establish a legal basis for platform self-regulation until 31 October 2023. The main clauses of this amendment primarily centre on delineating the roles and responsibilities of supplementary telecommunication operators or organisations in carrying out self-regulation duties. The amendment follows the government's plan to support platform self-regulation in the private sector, supporting the digital platform ecosystem.
