United States of America: Consultation opened on clarifying laws around cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies including data governance

A consultation on clarifying laws around cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies has been opened on 26 August 2021 by the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The consultation announced by U.S. Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Pat Toomey aims to collect ideas and legislative proposals in connection with cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies. It is intended to ensure the federal law is supporting new technological developments, but also protecting investors. The information obtained through the consultation is intended to be used to form legislation that clarifies ambiguity around how existing laws may apply to cryptocurrencies. The consultation will be open until 27 September 2021.
