Brazil: Adopted ANPD technical note on the processing of personal data of children and adolescents by TikTok

On 23 June 2023, the Brazil National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) adopted a technical note on the processing of personal data of children and adolescents by TikTok when they register on the platform. The ANPD outlined measures TikTok has to implement to comply with the General Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD). The measures include, among others, an effective age verification mechanism ensuring that children under the age of 13 do not register, a revision of the privacy protection policy which informs about the differences in processing of the data of children, adolescents, and adults, a review of specific information in light of LGPD principles such as purpose limitation and data minimisation, as well as presenting a personal data protection impact report.
