Opened consultation on Treasury inquiry into unfair trading practices in the Australian Consumer Law

On 31 August 2023, the Department of the Treasury of Australia’s Government opened an inquiry into unfair trading practices in the Australian Consumer Law. The Treasury issued the consultation Regulation Impact Statement and opened a public consultation until 29 November 2023. The Treasury is requesting evidence regarding the nature of unfair trading practices and the extent to which consumers and small businesses are adversely affected by potential gaps in the Consumer Law. The Treasury also aims to gather information from stakeholders on potential policy options to address unfair trading practices.
